LEVELS OF RELATIONSHIPS

Integrate OD views organizations as networks of relationships. Relationships set the stage and context for how people work together, and the quality of the working relationship is the main determinant of a successful outcome. Hence, besides the formal hierarchical relationships, we distinguish between eight levels of relationships that organizations can manage in order to maximize results.

Individuals’ relationships with themselves: how they relate to their professional role and view their impact within the larger context of their team, division and the organization.

Individuals’ relationships with each other: how they perceive each other’s roles and functions and how their respective responsibilities interconnect.

Team-members’ relationship with the rest of the team: how they relate to their team responsibilities and view its impact within the larger context of their division and the Organization.

Teams’ relationships with each other: how they perceive each other’s functions and how their respective contributions to their division interconnect.

Divisional teams’ relationship with the rest of the division: how they relate to their division’s responsibilities and view its impact within the larger context of the Organization.
